Zooming in on Malaysians Abroad

Zooming in on Malaysians Abroad

The celebration of Chinese New Year typically causes the largest, annual human migration on the planet as people from all across the globe travel home to usher in the new year. Whether it’s setting up decorations around the house, feasting on your favourite home-cooked dishes or lighting firecrackers with the family - ‘home’ is an integral element to CNY festivities.

In light of ongoing travel restrictions this year, we’ve had to get creative with how we celebrate CNY and send love to our friends and family. To celebrate CNY at Batik Boutique, we ZOOM-ed in on Malaysians abroad to send them a bit of cheer and a piece of home.

We caught up with Malaysians in Australia, Singapore and Finland to talk about their favourite traditions and what they miss most about CNY in Malaysia.

Australia

Meet Malaysian newlyweds in Melbourne, Australia - Divya Lee Nair and Navin Jayaram.

Singapore

Introducing investment banker turned certified yogi, Kimberly Anne - Malaysian in Singapore.

Finland

Meet musician Eva Wong, her hilarious husband Riku, and their adorable son Noah - Malaysians celebrating CNY in Finland.
