Batik Boutique at Sustainability Summit 2025: ESG and Corporate Gifting in Malaysia

Batik Boutique at Unlocking Capital for Sustainability 2025
In August 2025, Batik Boutique partnered with Eco-Business as the official Networking Partner for the Unlocking Capital for Sustainability 2025 event in Kuala Lumpur. We provided over 150 guests with custom tumblers wrapped in authentic Malaysian batik, offering a memorable, sustainable gift experience.

This forum gathered business leaders, investors, policymakers, and sustainability experts to explore how Southeast Asia can finance climate action and accelerate progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Why We Joined
Batik Boutique is a certified B Corp and Malaysian social enterprise. We exist to provide ethical, sustainable batik gifts while empowering artisans from underserved communities. Our presence at the summit allowed us to connect with ESG-focused organizations and demonstrate how corporate procurement can drive real impact.

What We Learned: Key Themes from the Forum
Asia’s SDG Progress in 2025: Key Gaps and Solutions
According to the UNESCAP 2024 SDG Progress Report, Asia-Pacific is on track to achieve the 2030 SDGs only by 2062—a 32-year delay. This calls for immediate, coordinated regional action.
Quote from Datuk Seri Haji Faiz Fadzil – “Promise Great, Delivery Next to Zilch”
Chairman of Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia (LKIM), Datuk Seri Haji Faiz Fadzil, remarked:
“We hear bold promises on ESG, but the delivery is next to zilch. Talk alone won’t meet SDG targets.”
His comment reflects a broader concern: many ESG initiatives lack accountability, funding, and follow-through.
Financial Sector Reform and ESG Accountability
Speaker Wazir Ali, Group Chief Sustainability Officer at CIMB Group, stated:
“We need ESG partner programmes that deliver—jobs created, GDP contribution, emission reduction. That’s how we demonstrate partnership value and build trust.”
Wazir emphasized the importance of impact-driven partnerships over box-ticking.
Other speakers also noted:
- ASEAN faces a US$1.5 trillion climate financing gap.
- Regional energy demand is projected to rise 60% by 2040.
- Current investment models are too slow and risk-averse to meet urgency.
Role of AI and Data in the Green Transition
Siti Safinah Binti Mohd Amini, Head of Strategy at TNB Renewables, highlighted how:
-
Enhanced data analytics improve forecasting for supply and demand.
-
AI can help develop transition plans and stress-test climate scenarios.
The message was clear: tech, policy, and finance must work together.
