Batik Boutique Celebrates #EachForEqual (IWD2020)

Every year on March 8, communities and organizations join together to recognize International Women's Day — a celebration of all the amazing women across the globe, and a call to continue to work for gender equality.

This year, we at Batik Boutique, gathered our artisans and team for the Women’s Day campaign and shared across social media (@thebatikboutique) what empowers us to strive and succeed in our lives.

In line with International Women’s Day 2020 Collective Individualism approach, we believe that regardless of gender, size, colour and age, we are all parts of a whole. Our individual actions, conversations, behaviors and mindsets impact our larger society. Collectively, we can make change happen. Together, we can each help to create a gender equal world. Together we can achieve #eachforequal.

“Be inspirational” says Fyza, one of the women trained at our sewing centre who believes we need to inspire other women. Fitri, another artisan, believes everything is possible for a woman to achieve regardless of status. Batik Boutique is working to change stereotypes and biases, and it starts with us as individuals. #eachforequal

In honor of International Women’s Day, Batik Boutique partnered with SEPHORA to create hand-crafted bangles and pouches as part of SEPHORA’s gift with purchase. It consists of the Black Shibori bangle made of hand-carved wood and wrapped in eco-dyed 100% shibori silk. The production behind these 300 sets of bangles and pouches took 168 hours to complete. It provided fair wages for 5 batik artists and 7 seamstresses, and also supported the production of hand-dyed 15 yards of batik.

“We are truly honored to be partnering with SEPHORA, a well-recognized multinational chain beauty and personal care that relates so much to women, and to know that this gift-with-purchase directly creates social impact, is truly amazing. Our bangles are made locally by women whose stories we will continue to invest in. We at Batik Boutique believe in gender equality and believe empowered women create stronger families and communities. When we partner together to support fair wages and equality for all people, we can make a difference. Together we can do good,"  says Amy Blair, the founder and CEO of Batik Boutique.

Batik Boutique is committed to raising awareness for the Sustainable Development Goals, UN’s call of action by all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. We recognize that ending poverty, achieving gender equality and reducing inequalities must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs while tackling environmental protection.
